For those that live in or around Sydney, including the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains, please be advised of new Sydney Water restrictions exemptions. Residents can now apply to use a trigger nozzle hose to allow the watering in of new plants. This applies for a 28 day period from the date of purchase. As usual, this watering must occur before 10am and after 4pm, following the long-term water saving restrictions. Sydney residents have saved over 441 bil litres of water after the establishment of the Sydney Water restrictions were implemented (October 2003). This new exemption means gardeners can water their new plants, with a trigger nozzle for 28 days from the date of purchase, and not risk a restrictions infringement notice - provided they have a receipt. In order to qualify for this restriction exemption, all plant purchase receipts must include the plant name and the date of purchase. This must be available upon request by a Sydney water restrictions officer. People looking to save water in the home and garden can register for Sydney Water’s Love Your Garden program. For a small fee between $33-$55, a qualified horticulturist will visit your home and evaluate your garden's watering needs and install smart watering tools including a rain gauge and Tap Tags. Since the program was launched in February 2007 more than 9,500 residential customers have had their gardens visited. Please note, a pre-existing limited exemption for establishing new lawns already applies to residential customers with brand new homes, and also those with major home renovation works. These customers can apply for exemption by contacting Sydney Water on 13 20 92 during business hours.
