If you have a leaking toilet contact one of our Sydney Plumbers. A toilet cistern is the tank that holds the water, with some pressure, so that it will flush when desired. Water is passed through a plumbing pipe to an inlet valve. This is placed in a position so that a space of air blocks any contamination of your water supply. The outlet valve is then opened by the press of the flush button. Your toilet unit will usually consist of a cistern, and the attached toilet bowl with its respective seat. So, given all of this, if your toilet begins to leak, it is most usually going to occur within the toilet cistern compartment. Either of the two valves, the inlet or the outlet, may become worn and require replacement. If the toilet never stops filling up with water, and water is passed out through an excess outlet, then it is likely the your toilet cistern inlet valve is broken. However, if your cistern is continually sending water into the toilet bowl, then the outlet valve is worn and requires replacement. Please note that as toilets grow older, it becomes harder to obtain these cistern valves. You may then be required to replace your whole toilet cistern.
